The short answer

Start with the area that suits your base and experience. Arashi and Boca Catalina fit a north-west coast outing; Baby Beach belongs to a separate southern day. Conditions and a suitable entry matter more than a list of supposedly guaranteed sightings.

Three places, three different outings

Arashi is a useful candidate when you want a beach day in the north-west with a possible snorkel session. Boca Catalina is a smaller bay in the Malmok area, also on the road towards the California Lighthouse. Baby Beach is near San Nicolas in the south. Putting all three into one day usually means spending more time packing and driving than enjoying the water.

Our suggested first decision is geographic: choose the north-west pair if you are based around Palm Beach or Eagle Beach, or combine Baby Beach with a southern outing. Then choose the actual water activity according to local conditions and the group's ability. A short drive does not make a site appropriate for every swimmer.

Arashi: combine time ashore with time in the water

Arashi makes sense for a group in which some people want to stay on the beach while others snorkel. Decide on shade, refreshments and a meeting point before separating. Look at the conditions and ask locally where entry is appropriate that day rather than setting out towards a reef solely because it appears close on a map.

If this is your first snorkel session, a guide can help with equipment fit, orientation and site selection. Being able to stand in one part of a beach does not describe conditions throughout the water. Choose a session short enough that everyone can enjoy the rest of the outing without feeling they must complete a particular distance.

Boca Catalina: a focused stop

The smaller bay can suit a shorter visit, but do not assume it provides the same facilities as a large resort beach. Bring what you need for the planned length of stay and establish the return transport before entering the water. Avoid leaving a non-swimming companion waiting without shade or a comfortable place to sit.

Boat excursions may include this area as one stop among several. Compare how long is actually allocated to snorkelling, whether equipment and guidance are included, and how boarding works. A sailing outing with a short snorkel stop and a dedicated guided session serve different priorities.

Baby Beach: keep the lagoon and the opening distinct

Baby Beach's shallow lagoon is a major part of its appeal. The tourism board specifically asks snorkellers to remain within the marked area near the opening to the sea. Shallow water nearer shore should not be treated as evidence that the whole bay has identical conditions. Follow the signs and local instructions rather than other visitors moving farther out.

For children or uncertain swimmers, make the beach day enjoyable without requiring a snorkel session. One adult can remain with the group ashore while another takes an appropriate guided activity, if suitable arrangements are available. Agree this before booking equipment or a tour for everyone.

What to bring and what to leave alone

Bring drinking water, sun protection, a towel and a secure plan for belongings. Check the mask fit before the session and tell the operator about your experience. Do not touch coral, pursue turtles or feed fish to create a photograph. Wildlife sightings are possibilities, not deliverables included with a ticket.

A simple north-west half-day

Choose Arashi as the main stop, or book a suitable guided session at the site the operator recommends. Add a brief scenic stop only if the group still wants one. Leave the afternoon free for your normal beach or accommodation rather than filling the day with repeated water entries. Keep Baby Beach for a different day, especially when travelling with children.
