The short answer
The famous original Pig Beach is Big Major Cay in the Exumas. A tour sold from Nassau is not automatically a visit there. Read the exact island name and the full travel plan before comparing prices or booking around a cruise stop.
Big Major Cay is a location, not a generic activity
The Bahamas tourism board identifies Big Major Cay as the home of the well-known swimming pigs. It is reached by boat. Other excursions can also advertise pig encounters, so the words swimming pigs alone do not identify the island you will visit. Ask for the named destination, departure point and planned stops.
This matters most when a photograph has become the reason for the trip. Decide whether visiting Big Major Cay specifically is important, or whether you mainly want a suitable boat outing with an animal encounter. Both the geography and the daily schedule should match that decision.
Three different starting points
From Nassau, a trip to the Exuma Cays can be a substantial full-day journey. Some packages use a long boat route; others combine a flight with local transfers and a boat. From Great Exuma, the meeting point and route through the cays still need careful checking. Staying nearer Staniel Cay creates another version of the outing.
Compare door-to-door time from your own accommodation rather than just the advertised boat duration. Include check-in, road transfers, waiting and the return. A ticket that starts at a marina can require a separate journey from the hotel, and an early departure can change what you need to arrange for breakfast or children.
Choose the boat experience as well as the destination
Ask about seating, shade, toilets, group size and the time spent under way. Explain if someone dislikes long crossings or needs a particular boarding arrangement. A fast open boat and a more leisurely excursion offer different experiences even when their photographs show similar water.
Find out which stops are fixed and which depend on tide, weather or operating conditions. Sandbars, snorkelling and other wildlife stops should not be treated as guaranteed just because they appear in promotional images. Choose the package whose main experience remains worthwhile if an optional stop changes.

What does the price include?
List the transfers, boat or flight sectors, meals, equipment and any separately charged admissions. Check whether the displayed price is for the whole excursion or only one part. Retain the written itinerary and cancellation terms with the booking so you can identify the exact offer later.
If comparing two operators, use the same departure location and intended destination. A nearby excursion and a long Exuma itinerary are not equivalent products. The cheaper one may be a better fit, but only if it goes where you actually want to go and provides a suitable day for the group.
Interact with the animals responsibly
Follow the current signs and the guide's instructions at the site. Do not chase, lift or restrain pigs, and do not bring food unless the operator explicitly directs an appropriate feeding arrangement. Keep children close and give the animals space. A tour purchase does not guarantee a particular pose or a risk-free close encounter.
Is it sensible during a cruise call?
Work backwards from the ship's all-aboard time and include every transfer. A long, independently arranged Exuma trip may leave too little resilience for a short port call. Ask the operator to assess your exact ship schedule rather than accepting a generic statement that the excursion is suitable for cruise passengers.
For a hotel stay, put the outing early enough to leave a possible alternative date. For a short call, a well-planned Nassau day may be the more comfortable decision. The goal is a good holiday experience, not reaching one photograph at the expense of the rest of the trip.
