The short answer

Beach admission, a lounger and food are different budget items. Decide which facilities your group needs, then confirm the current total with the beach operator. This guide gives you a way to compare a beach day without presenting old entrance fees as today’s prices.

Start with what you need on arrival

For a longer day, list toilets, fresh water, shade, food and a place to change. With young children, add the walk from parking and where you can take a break. For limited mobility, ask about the actual surface and steps rather than relying on a general “accessible” label. Confirm the facilities you depend on before travelling there.

Cas Abao: use the operator’s facilities list

Cas Abao lists parking, restrooms, showers and lockers, alongside food and watersports facilities. That makes it a useful starting point if your priority is having several services in one place. Ask which items are included in admission and which cost extra. A facilities list does not establish a guaranteed sunbed, shade spot or swimming condition.

PortoMari or Jan Thiel: compare the whole day

PortoMari highlights snorkelling and diving; Jan Thiel highlights beach dining and entertainment. Use those as starting points for different days, then check current access, rentals and opening arrangements. If your group will mostly eat and relax, a different mix of facilities may matter than for someone bringing their own snorkelling equipment.

Price the return journey too

Your comparison is: transport both ways + admission + equipment or chairs + food and drinks. Ask whether entry is charged per person or vehicle and whether children have different conditions. If you take a taxi, agree on collection before leaving. Avoid fitting several paid beaches into one afternoon unless you specifically want a short stop at each.

Choose two contrasting beach days

Cas Abao and PortoMari are useful starting points when you want a managed beach day with facilities to investigate in advance. Jan Thiel suits a different decision: whether the surrounding beach-and-dining setup fits your stay and budget. Grote Knip offers the classic western-bay setting, but you should still verify the facilities you need rather than importing assumptions from another beach.

For a first visit, choose one beach for a long stay and a second for a different setting. You do not need a five-beach checklist to make the day worthwhile. Every move means packing, parking and arranging the next spot, which can use a surprisingly large part of a family outing.

Compare facilities before the headline price

Ask separately about entry, vehicle parking, chairs, umbrellas or palapas, toilets, showers, lockers and food. Establish whether the quoted amount is per person, per vehicle or per item. If you bring your own refreshments, check the operator's policy. Do not assume that access includes a chair or that hiring a chair includes shade.

For a family with young children, reliable shade and a short route to toilets may decide the choice. For a snorkeller, the suitability of the entry and conditions on the day matter more than the length of the beach. For a mixed group, pick a place where the people staying ashore will also enjoy spending several hours.

Plan the practical rhythm of the day

Arrive with drinking water, sun protection and the equipment you actually need. Decide where valuables will be kept before everyone heads to the water. If the available setup does not meet your needs, choose another suitable beach instead of trying to force the original plan. Facilities and capacity can change, especially on a busy day.

Keep the return journey simple. If using a transfer, agree a meeting point and collection time; if driving, know where you parked and leave enough time for the next commitment. Finish with a meal near your route rather than crossing the island again solely to complete an ambitious itinerary. A good beach day includes a comfortable departure as well as a beautiful arrival.

Put it into practice

Before you book

  1. Confirm access and chair costs separately.
  2. Ask about the facilities your group needs.
  3. Include return transport in the day’s total.
