The short answer
Use one base and organise days by area. Our suggested first week combines Willemstad, a western beach day, an optional boat outing and a spare day. It is a flexible editorial itinerary: change the order around arrival times, transport and local conditions.
Days 1–2: arrive, then explore Willemstad
Keep arrival day light: collect your car or transfer, check in and arrange food. The next day can focus on Punda and Otrobanda, with time for a museum, lunch and a shaded break. Choose a few stops you care about rather than walking every street in midday heat. Leave the evening open until you know your energy level.
Day 3: one western beach area
Pick one main cove and one optional stop nearby. Before setting out, check access, facilities and any charges at the specific beaches. Bring what your group needs for the time away and plan lunch rather than assuming every stop has food. The aim is a proper beach day, not a sequence of parking and unpacking.
Day 4: the optional boat day
If Klein Curaçao is a priority, compare operators, sailing time, shade, included meals and the cancellation policy. Keep the following day flexible in case the outing moves. Travellers who prefer staying ashore can use this day for another neighbourhood or a relaxed local beach. A boat trip is a choice, not a requirement for completing the island.

Days 5–6: a spare day and one personal priority
Use the spare day for weather changes or simply a slower pace. For your other day, choose one theme: nature, a guided activity or more city time. Check opening hours and the effort involved before combining stops. If rain changes a beach plan, move a museum or city visit into that slot rather than driving across the island chasing a clearer sky.
Day 7: leave space for departure
Work backwards from your airline’s check-in guidance and the car-return or transfer appointment. Avoid a remote activity on the departure morning. Staying seven nights instead of six? Add the extra day where your group wants more time. This outline is deliberately not tied to fixed opening days, reservations or assumed driving times.
Turn the outline into a real route
For Willemstad, choose Punda and Otrobanda as the core of the outing, then add Pietermaai only if you still have energy and time. Allow the Queen Emma Bridge to be part of the experience rather than a rigid transfer in a minute-by-minute schedule. Pair the walk with a museum or a meal that interests you. An early start and a relaxed lunch can be more satisfying than rushing between every photographed facade.
For the western day, select one main beach such as Grote Knip, Cas Abao or PortoMari, then consider one nearby additional stop. Do not automatically combine all three. They offer different settings and facilities, and your choice should reflect whether you want a long swim, a comfortable family base or a shorter scenic visit.
Adapt the week for children
Protect one predictable part of each day: a meal, nap or return to the accommodation. Avoid placing the longest drive after the longest boat outing. Pack beach equipment the evening before and choose facilities that allow the adults to relax too. A week with four memorable outings and comfortable afternoons can work better than seven fully booked days.
Give older children a choice between two realistic activities rather than presenting a huge list. If someone does not want to swim or take a boat, plan what that person will do instead. The outline is deliberately adjustable; it is not a list that everyone must finish to have experienced Curaçao properly.
Adapt the week without a rental car
Choose your base around repeated journeys, arrange the western outing with transport and agree return pickups at the time of booking. Keep a city day and the closest suitable beach relatively simple. Compare the total cost of the selected transfers before confirming a remote accommodation.
On departure day, work backwards from the airline's check-in advice and your transfer or car-return arrangement. Avoid adding a final distant swim that leaves no room for traffic, changing clothes or collecting luggage. Finishing calmly is part of the itinerary, not wasted holiday time.
