White sand and turquoise water on Klein Bonaire.

The short answer

Choose between a beach transfer and a guided boat outing before booking. Klein Bonaire is an undeveloped protected island: organise water, shade, your return crossing and an appropriate snorkelling plan rather than expecting resort facilities.

A nearby island still needs preparation

Klein Bonaire lies off the main island and is part of the protected marine-park setting. No Name Beach is the familiar starting point for many visitors. STINAPA describes open shelters but no running water or sanitation facilities on the island. Those details should guide the length of your visit, especially with children or someone who needs reliable facilities.

Our suggested starting plan is a manageable beach visit with a confirmed return, rather than the longest possible time ashore. Decide what you will do if the available shade is occupied or the group wants to leave early. A short crossing does not remove the need to be comfortable while waiting for the next agreed boat.

Water taxi or guided excursion?

A water-taxi ticket is primarily a transport arrangement. A guided snorkelling excursion may include a boat-based session, equipment, an instructor or guide, refreshments and a different return plan. Compare the actual inclusions instead of assuming that all boats offering Klein Bonaire provide the same experience.

Ask where you board, where you are dropped off and whether there is a separate snorkelling drop. Establish whether the operator remains with you or returns at scheduled times. Someone who needs help with equipment or site choice should say so before paying. A transfer alone is not instruction or supervision in the water.

Understand the snorkelling arrangement

Before entering, clarify the intended entry, exit and meeting point with the operator or qualified guide. Conditions can change, and following another visitor is not a substitute for understanding the plan. If you are uncomfortable with a proposed drift or cannot confidently complete the route, choose a guided option suited to your ability or enjoy the beach instead.

Keep away from coral and wildlife, and follow STINAPA's current equipment-cleaning and access guidance. Do not take shells or other natural objects as souvenirs. A sighting of a turtle is a possibility, not something the trip can promise or a reason to approach an animal closely.

Pack for the time you will actually spend

Bring drinking water, food appropriate for the length of the visit, sun protection and a way to carry rubbish back. Think about the items that cannot easily be replaced on arrival. Pack important belongings so they can be handled during boarding without relying on every transfer being completely dry.

For children, decide on shade, toilet needs and the return time before departure. A long beach day with limited facilities may be less enjoyable than a shorter visit followed by lunch on Bonaire. The alternative should be chosen before the group becomes uncomfortable, not improvised after the last convenient boat has gone.

Book the return as carefully as the outward trip

Confirm which boat you may return on, where to wait and how changes are communicated. Save the operator's contact and instructions offline. Keep a generous gap before a flight, an important reservation or another ticketed activity. Our preference is to put Klein Bonaire on a day with no urgent appointment immediately afterwards.

A good half-day shape

Have breakfast, check the operator's update and take the agreed boat. Spend your chosen time on the beach or in a suitable guided session, then return for a relaxed meal on the main island. If the crossing or water plan is cancelled, use a land-based outing such as Kralendijk or Rincon. This keeps the day useful without pressuring anyone to enter unsuitable conditions.
