The short answer

For a first week, choose one main region or a carefully organised two-base route. Negril, Ocho Rios, Kingston and Port Antonio should not all be compulsory stops in seven nights. Match the airport to the route before choosing hotels and excursions.

Begin with the airport and the kind of holiday

This is a set of suggested structures for seven nights, allowing for arrival and departure rather than assuming seven full excursion days. Check current flights and transfer arrangements for the route that interests you. A cheaper fare can lose its appeal when it adds a long road journey away from the places you want to visit.

Write down three priorities. If they are beach time, food and rest, one base may be enough. If music, city history and Portland scenery matter most, a different route and airport comparison will be more useful than a resort itinerary with several distant day trips added afterwards.

Option one: a western beach week

Choose a suitable Montego Bay-area or Negril base and use the first full day locally. Plan one substantial outing during the week, keep another day for a smaller food or scenic experience and leave the rest for the beach and accommodation you selected.

For Negril, decide between a beach property and a West End setting before booking. Visit the other area deliberately rather than expecting both experiences from every hotel. Ask about the real airport transfer and avoid attaching a major excursion to the arrival afternoon.

Option two: Ocho Rios with selective outings

If the attractions around Ocho Rios are the priority, consider staying in that region instead of repeatedly travelling from farther west. Choose the experiences that suit your group's physical preferences, then give each an adequate day. Dunn's River Falls, for example, requires a decision about participation and suitable alternatives before the transport is booked.

Keep time between excursions for the hotel, a meal or a local beach. More activity tickets do not automatically produce a better holiday. Ask for complete door-to-door durations so the schedule reflects the actual travel rather than only the time advertised at each attraction.

Option three: Kingston and Portland

A possible structure is a short Kingston stay followed by several nights in the Port Antonio area, with the transfer counted as a travel day. Confirm the practical arrival and departure airports before deciding the order. The final night must leave a sensible journey to the flight you actually booked.

In Kingston, anchor a full day around a music or cultural visit and a meal. In Portland, choose a suitable beach and one river or waterfall experience, leaving time for the region's slower pace. Add a Blue Mountains coffee day only when the available nights and transfers genuinely support it.

What to leave flexible

Water-based activities and nature visits can depend on current conditions and operating arrangements. Put a priority excursion before the last available day and understand its rescheduling terms. Keep an alternative near the base that the group would actually enjoy, rather than a distant replacement with equally demanding logistics.

Finish in the right place

Confirm the departure airport code, airline instructions and transfer pickup. Include any luggage collection or rental return in the timing. Keep the final full day light enough for a favourite meal or a moved activity. A well-planned Jamaica week gives a region room to become familiar instead of turning the island into a long sequence of road transfers.
